Itron is seeking a Senior Manager, Learning and Documentation to lead the vision, strategy, and execution of our product documentation and learning programs across a diverse portfolio of hardware, software, and firmware solutions that enable utilities and cities to manage energy, water, and critical city services.
This role leads a distributed team of experienced technical writers and learning professionals, providing clear direction, coaching, and support while fostering a culture that is customer centric, authentic, accountable, agile, collaborative, and innovative. The Senior Manager partners with senior leaders across Product, Engineering, Customer Experience, and Marketing to ensure content is accurate, accessible, inclusive, and aligned with business goals and customer outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities
Set the strategic direction for product documentation and learning programs, ensuring alignment with customer needs and business goals.
Establish and govern standards for clear, accessible, inclusive, and consistent content across platforms and product lines.
Lead, develop, and mentor a high‑performing distributed team of writers and learning professionals, fostering collaboration and continuous improvement.
Partner with senior leaders across Product, Engineering, Customer Experience, and Marketing to align content with product roadmaps and customer journeys.
Oversee content tooling and operations, including evaluation and management of solutions such as MadCap Flare, Adobe Creative Cloud, and localization platforms.
Drive innovation through automation, structured authoring, and AI‑powered workflows to improve efficiency and quality.
Manage planning, prioritization, and resourcing for major documentation and learning initiatives.
Lead translation and localization processes to ensure globally inclusive, high‑quality content.
Ensure customers can easily access documentation and learning resources across portals and distribution channels.
Provide hands‑on support for high‑impact writing, editing, or content strategy needs when required.
Required Skills & Experience
Extensive experience in technical documentation, learning development, or related fields within complex technology environments.
Leadership experience managing mid‑ to senior‑level documentation or learning teams, ideally in distributed/global settings.
Proven ability to lead strategy, set standards, and scale content operations in alignment with customer and business outcomes.
Strong collaboration skills with experience partnering with senior Product, Engineering, and Customer teams.
Demonstrated accountability and agility in managing multiple projects, shifting priorities, and driving continuous improvement.
Excellent communication and simplification skills for complex technical concepts.
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Skills & Experience
Experience with MadCap Flare, Adobe Creative Cloud, and translation/localization tools.
Background supporting advanced technology products in energy, utilities, IoT, or similar domains.
Experience with modern learning approaches such as blended learning or microlearning.
Proven success implementing new authoring, automation, or AI‑supported content solutions.
Familiarity with accessibility and inclusive content standards.
Education: Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent experience.
Physical Demands: This is a typical office job, with no special physical requirements or unusual work environment.

The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as skills and experience and may vary by location. The base salary is $125,000 – $279,000. This position is eligible for our annual bonus program.
