Thalo Labs

New York, NY, USA
Posted on Wednesday, June 26, 2024
We’re Thalo Labs, a NYC-based company on a mission to transform the built environment into a powerful tool for fighting climate change. Where others see buildings as part of the problem, we see an incredible opportunity to leverage existing infrastructure to not only accelerate drawdown, but to transform the built environment from one of the biggest carbon emitters to a carbon sink. Our technology combines proprietary sensing, software, and capture systems to accurately measure, significantly reduce, and directly capture a building’s onsite greenhouse gasses in real time.
Our team has built self-driving cars at Waymo, worked on satellite imagery at Google, designed systems for John Deere, developed space missions for NASA, engineered bikes for Peloton, led manufacturing design for Boom Supersonic jets, and more. We are united by our shared goal of making products that help us decarbonize today and accelerate drawdown globally.
We are looking for a passionate Policy Lead who will help us navigate the complex world of climate regulations, public policies, and stakeholder relationships. You should have experience with the implementation of climate policy, from public-private partnerships to the distribution of funds from federal bills like the IRA and state-level bills like the CLCPA. You’ve spent time in both government and the private sector, and now you’re excited to make change happen at a cutting-edge climate tech startup.

What We Offer

  • An immediate opportunity to make an impact fighting climate change with a mission-driven team
  • An in-person, collaborative culture. In our historic Brooklyn Navy Yard office, we not only have a stocked pantry but we also dedicate time to connect with each other during weekly happy hours, Falafel Fridays, and quarterly off-sites
  • National subsidized healthcare plans for medical, dental, and vision insurance
  • Free, anonymous mental health and coaching appointments through Lyra
  • Unlimited PTO so you can take time when you need it
  • A team learning & development budget to invest in conferences, classes, professional communities, and skill development
  • Other benefits include a 401k program and up to 12 weeks paid parental leave
  • Thalo Labs believes everyone should be compensated fairly. At our ground-floor stage, our compensation structure places a strong emphasis on the value of high equity, with an annual base salary ranging from $120,000 to $155,000

What You'll Do

  • Lead and coordinate Thalo Labs’ interactions with all legislative, regulatory, and policy groups. Drive policy engagement at the federal (e.g., DoE/ARPA), state (NYSERDA), and Local (NYC) levels
  • Analyze legislation and public policies related to climate tech and sustainability
  • Acquire funding from green banks
  • Advocate for favorable regulations through white papers, op-eds, and direct lobbying
  • Work closely with our Business Development team to align products with existing and upcoming policies
  • Track, develop, and land grants, awards, and contracts
  • Actively monitor, identify, and manage applications for grants and grant reporting to ensure successful and timely completion of financial reporting to funders
  • Responsible for the development of compelling grant proposals and maintaining tracking for legislation, regulations, and key stakeholders

What You Have

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in related field
  • Minimum of 7+ years experience implementing climate or infrastructure related policy
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities
  • Passion for tackling climate change and promoting sustainability
