About the Job

🎯 Business Development Representative

🌍 London, N4

🏛️ 4 days in our office, 1 day working from home

💰 £30k per annum with on target commission of £10k

Join Shellworks as a Business Development Representative and help us materialise a better future by eliminating plastic pollution.

About Shellworks

Developed for a throwaway culture, plastics have caused significant pollution to our natural environments with 90% of all plastics ever created never being recycled. More so, recent studies have identified that plastics impact goes beyond pollution to chemicals and micro-plastics that impact human and environmental health.

We believe there must be a better way and our first innovation Vivomer does just that, if nature made a plastic this would be it. Vivomer, a polymer made by microorganisms, behaves just like plastic in use, but degrades upon disposal in any natural environment. Developed through cutting-edge material science, mechanical engineering, design, and operations, Vivomer represents a groundbreaking step towards a pollution-free future.

The nature of our work is frequently described as impossible, but if like us, you’re driven by the challenge to prove that there is a better way to do things, join us. You will play a critical role in developing the future of materials, how products are created and directly contribute to reducing plastic pollution.

About the Role

The role of Business Development Representative is a unique opportunity to work alongside the founders and early team at Shellworks to enable a world without plastic pollution. You will learn how to build a business from scratch, how to solve virtually any problem, and hone the mentality to achieve any goal. The role spans across marketing, business development and customer support. Expect to work with a positive, passionate, ambitious, incredibly disciplinary team and have high levels of autonomy to create meaningful environmental impact.

Your Impact

  • Pre-Sales: Qualify inbound leads and enquiries from our multiple inbound channels. Organise sample boxes to qualified prospects. Work with marketing, sales and founders to develop a nurture funnel for existing prospects and leads.

  • During Sales Process: Fulfil web orders and liaise (via chat or similar) with e-commerce buyers. With the help of your manager, and our marketing lead create automated sequences to follow up with those clients. Support senior sales leader with technical quotes for development, design and tooling.

  • Post-Sales: Create a defined process to gather customer testimonials. Support social media posts with the above testimonial content. Support senior sales leaders to expand existing customers.

Must haves - we'd love to hear from you if:

  • You are passionate about solving the plastic waste crisis.

  • You have above average knowledge of key issues such as recyclability rates and microplastic pollution and the problems associated with these

  • You believe that the high autonomy environment of an early-stage start-up is the right place to unleash your potential

  • You understand the value of thinking outside of your comfort zone to contribute to company goals

  • You enjoy talking to customers and helping them solve problems

  • You're a critical thinker who will constantly strive to improve your own work, the processes in place, and politely challenge the status quo

  • You have demonstrated resilience in the face of complex and uncertain situations in past positions

  • You have 1 year of experience in a sales role such as BDR, SDR, etc.

Nice to haves - we'd love to hear from you even more if:

  • You speak another language fluently besides English; ideally French or German

  • You have a BA or MSc in science, maths, engineering, microbiology, etc.

  • You have previous experience working at a sustainable, mission-driven organisation

  • You have a network in the beauty and personal care industries
