About Sention

Sention Technologies is transforming diagnostics for the battery industry, enabling unprecedented insights into battery performance, quality, and safety. Our proprietary, technologies, using ultrasound acoustics and machine learning, allow us to ‘see inside’ batteries and deliver actionable data to our customers through our web-based platform.

By reducing waste, increasing productivity, and improving safety, our solutions empower R&D companies, battery manufacturers, cell pack integrators, and fleet operators to meet the demands of the energy transition. Our vision is to accelerate this transition by revolutionising the efficiency of electrochemical industries.

Role Summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on graduate engineer or scientist to join a fast-growing deep-tech startup at the cutting edge of energy diagnostics.

The role will involve developing and testing new experimental methods and devices in the field of ultrasonic scanning and imaging, building prototypes, and generating high-value datasets for our machine learning platform. You will work closely with our interdisciplinary team, contributing to electronics, experimental development, and data analysis.

We are flexible in shaping the role to the interests and strengths of the successful candidate—whether you lean more towards building sensors and hardware, experimental campaigns, or dataset analysis and ML/AI support.

This role is particularly well-suited for:

  • Engineering graduates with a strong physics background (especially wave physics).
  • Applied physicists with strong experimental credentials.
  • PhD candidates in the physical sciences (e.g. physics, chemistry, chemical engineering, or related fields).

Key Responsibilities

We’re looking for candidates that can tackle the following fields. You might not have them all, but please do apply nonetheless:

  • Electronics & Prototyping: Contribute to the development of novel sensors and prototypes.
  • Experimental Development: Run test campaigns on experimental sensors or techniques, validate development options, and process the resulting datasets.
  • Data Analysis: Work on analysing acoustic and electrochemical datasets, supporting ML/AI applications in this field.
  • Cross-disciplinary Collaboration: Cycle between benchtop experimentation and computer-based data analysis, working alongside engineers, scientists, and software developers.
  • Flexibility: Explore areas of personal interest within the role, shaping the scope of your contribution to fit your strengths.

Required Skills

  • Strong background in applied physics or engineering (mechanical, electrical, or related).
  • Hands-on, experimental mindset—comfortable in a lab environment and not afraid to try new approaches.
  • Demonstrated maker credentials (building, tinkering, or prototyping experience).
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing experimental requirements and shift between tasks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and an eagerness to learn new methods and tools.

Nice to Have

  • Knowledge of wave physics.
  • Experience in electrochemistry or batteries.
  • Python/Jupyter experience for data analysis.
  • PhD-level expertise (if strongly aligned with our technical focus).

Who Are You?

  • Hands-on and practical: you enjoy working at the bench and solving problems experimentally.
  • Curious and innovative: willing to step beyond your comfort zone and learn new fields.
  • Autonomous: comfortable setting objectives and following through.
  • Collaborative: thrive in a team environment and are open to sharing and testing ideas.
  • Not shy of hard problems: you are proactive and enjoy a good challenge.

What We Offer

  • A competitive graduate package.
  • The chance to work in a high-impact startup, directly contributing to revolutionary technology in the energy sector.
  • A unique role with flexibility to tailor your focus to your strengths and interests.
  • Close collaboration with a passionate, multi-disciplinary team, in a vibrant lab-based environment in Hackney Wick, London.

Application Timeline and Procedure

We aim to fill this position by October 2025.
