Growth Product Manager Intern

About the role
The pressures of climate change and energy security are causing countries around the world to accelerate their transition to clean energy. Enabling this clean energy transition cost effectively relies partly on making electricity demand flexible. Plentify has developed technology to do just this for residential appliances. Because this technology is filling a very real market need, we are growing quickly in South Africa, and are beginning to expand internationally, including in partnership with EDP in Portugal.
As a Growth Product Manager, you will be working alongside our Product Marketing Managers and Researcher to focus on two or three of our upcoming growth-focused projects:
- Developing the go-to-market strategy for Portugal

- You will work with a UX and Product Researcher to understand how our products need to be localised to a new market. This includes understanding how the Portuguese context differs from the South African one to understand the core value for this customer segment.
- You will also work with a Product Marketing Manager to then translate this localisation into a GTM strategy that delivers a successful and valuable pilot, directly to households. You will need to understand how to communicate the product effectively, ensuring consistency with what we deliver but understanding the nuances of a new market.

- Developing growth hacking opportunities for South Africa

- Plentify assists a number of customer segments within South Africa but we want to explore experimentation with our direct-to-consumer channel.
- You will work with a Product Marketing Manager and Communication Designer to explore, develop and launch efforts that result in growth for this channel. You will aim to find ways to learn, iterate and then replicate these growth strategies for future deployment.
- The product you will be responsible for will be the website; ensuring the backend mechanisms are set up to support growth, as well as finding ways to improve the frontend to convert customers.

- Launching our Project Smart Solar

- We are working with a local municipality to deploy a number of our devices to their residents to demonstrate both the environmental and social impact we can have.
- You will work with a Product Marketing Manager to develop the appropriate strategy to activate households for this initiative.
In doing so, you will help to shape our growth strategy and contribute meaningfully towards enabling clean, reliable and affordable power for all. This role works within the Product Growth team.
This internship is intended to be hosted in Cape Town, South Africa for at least half of the internship period (and the rest of the time can be remote). Candidates will be expected to apply for a Social Enterprise Summer Fellowship for additional funding / Candidates are encouraged to coordinate with their universities for additional funding (which is often available for internships with social enterprises). Plentify pays $300 per week and sponsors round-trip flights to South Africa and accommodation in Cape Town. School funding programs typically provide an additional $500-$900 per week.
Required qualifications
- MBA or similarly relevant (business, product, marketing) masters-level candidate from top-tier school
- 2 years of work experience in a tech start-up.
- Proficient in a mix of product experimentation, product management, market entry, new market development and user research, or relevant experience in new products and markets.
- Analytical, structured and creative problem solver
- Clear communicator by email, slides and verbally
