Senior Backend / Full Stack Developer
Nevoya
About Nevoya:
Nevoya is North America's leading next-generation electric trucking carrier, transforming logistics through AI-native operations and relentless customer focus. The company builds and uses proprietary technology to deliver zero-emissions carrier services to Fortune 500 shippers with superior economics and service to legacy diesel operators. The company has offices in California and Texas, and is backed by globally-renowned investors including Lowercarbon Capital.
About The Role:
As a Senior Backend/Full Stack Engineer, you'll architect and build the core systems that power our logistics operations—from real-time vehicle tracking and geofencing to load optimization and automated dispatch workflows. Your work will directly enable our fleet to operate efficiently while maximizing utilization and minimizing environmental impact.
What You'll Build:
Fleet Management Systems: Design APIs and data models for vehicles, trailers, drivers, and their integrations with third-party telematics platforms (Motive)
Real-Time Location Intelligence: Build geofencing systems, vehicle telemetry pipelines, and location-based event processing that track our fleet across North America
Load & Dispatch Optimization: Develop complex routing algorithms, load matching systems, and automated dispatch workflows that optimize for range, charging, and profitability
Integration Platforms: Create robust webhook processors and data pipelines that sync with external logistics providers, charging networks, and customer systems
Our Tech Stack:
Backend: Python, FastAPI, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL, Pydantic, Alembic
Infrastructure: AWS (S3, Location Services), Docker, background task processing
Frontend: React, TypeScript, Material UI, TanStack Query
Data: Complex relational models for loads, stops, vehicles, drivers, trailers, geofencing events, and telemetry
What We're Looking For:
5+ years of backend development experience with Python and modern web frameworks
Database Design Expertise: Deep understanding of relational databases and domain driven design
API Development: Strong experience building RESTful APIs, webhook systems, and real-time data processing
Integration Experience: Track record of building robust integrations with third-party APIs and handling data synchronization challenges
System Architecture: Ability to design scalable systems that handle real-time operations and background processing
Full-Stack Capability: Comfortable working across the stack when needed—from database optimization to React components
Logistics Domain Knowledge (bonus): Understanding of transportation, routing, or supply chain operations
Performance Optimization: Experience with caching, query optimization, and handling high-throughput data processing
Projects You Would Have Worked On in the Past 3 Months:
AI-Powered Document Parsing: Developed a system to analyze incoming documents and extract structured, relational data.
Driver Communication Platform: Built a real-time messaging system that delivers dispatch context, load details, and route updates from our in-house TMS to drivers via SMS.
Load Tracking: Created a real-time system to detect truck arrivals and departures at operational facilities.
Dispatch Optimization: Engineered a load dispatch system that validates schedule integrity, driver hours-of-service compliance, and vehicle range constraints.
Why You'll Love It Here:
Work on technically complex problems that truly matter for the environment
Help modernize a massive industry ripe for disruption
Build systems from the ground up with modern architecture and best practices
Collaborate with a smart, ambitious, low-ego team solving real-world logistics challenges
Enjoy flexible work setup and competitive compensation
Have full ownership over critical systems that directly impact business operations
Shape the technical architecture for a rapidly scaling logistics platform
Who We're Looking For:
We're excited to find someone who wants to dive into the complex, data-rich world of logistics technology. Someone who moves quickly, loves building robust systems from scratch, and is energized by solving hard technical problems that have massive environmental impact. You should be comfortable working with complex domain logic, real-time systems, and the operational constraints of managing a physical fleet.
At Nevoya, we believe diverse teams build better solutions.
We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and are committed to creating an inclusive and welcoming environment for all employees. We consider all qualified applicants regardless of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other protected characteristic.
