Before applying to a remote role, please ensure that you are able to perform the position in one of the states listed above. Mark43’s mission is to empower communities and their governments with new technologies that improve the safety and quality of life for all. We build powerful, scalable, and elegant software that sets a new standard for the tools upon which our first responders rely. Our users are diverse, and we are therefore committed to embracing diversity of thought and experience within our team.

We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our Professional Services team. In this role, you will partner directly with public safety agencies to help them unlock the full potential of their RMS and CAD data. You will turn complex operational data into actionable insights that support executive decision-making, operational strategy, and community impact. You will also play a key role in bringing analytical innovation to our customers and internally to Mark43.

What You’ll Do

If you were part of our team, here are some things you would have done last week:

  • Partnered with a customer’s command staff and Mark43 experts to define a high-priority analytical question, designed the appropriate methodology to extract and analyze relevant data, developed queries and pulled the data, and executed the analysis.
  • Designed or enhanced visualizations or a dashboard that transforms complex operational data into intuitive, decision-ready insights.
  • Integrated multiple disparate datasets, addressed data quality challenges, and built a repeatable framework that improves reporting consistency and accuracy.
  • Assessed which analytical approach would meaningfully support a customer’s desired analytical goal, and implemented a solution grounded in sound statistical reasoning and practical application.
  • Guided customers in leveraging the Mark43 platform’s analytical capabilities more effectively, while proactively identifying opportunities for feature enhancements and analytical innovation.
  • Translated complex analyses into clear, compelling narratives for non-technical stakeholders, ensuring insights were not only technically rigorous but actionable and aligned with operational goals.
  • Partnered with Services, Product, and Engineering teams to elevate customer-driven insights into platform improvements that strengthen analytical capabilities across Mark43.

What You’ll Need

We’re looking for a Data Scientist with 2 or more years of professional experience working with complex datasets in a production or client-facing environment. This level of experience is important because you will operate with autonomy, engage directly with senior agency stakeholders, and navigate ambiguous analytical challenges that do not have predefined answers.

You should bring:

  • Strong proficiency in Python, R, or similar analytical tools, along with SQL, to manipulate, analyze, and model complex datasets with confidence and rigor.
  • Experience designing and delivering analyses, dashboards, and visualizations.
  • Curiosity, willingness, and ability to learn the Mark43 platform’s data model and analytical capabilities, support customers in leveraging those tools effectively, and proactively identify opportunities for enhancement and innovation.
  • Comfort working with large, complex, and imperfect datasets, including synthesizing multiple disparate data sources into cohesive, reliable insights.
  • Practical experience applying machine learning techniques, paired with sound judgment about when advanced methods add value and when simpler approaches are more effective.
  • A demonstrated ability to translate complex analytical findings into clear, compelling narratives for non-technical stakeholders.
  • Public safety, law enforcement, and/or crime analysis experience is strongly preferred.

People who thrive on our team also tend to share the following characteristics:

  • Intellectually curious. You ask thoughtful questions and enjoy digging beneath the surface of a dataset to uncover meaningful insights.
  • Customer-obsessed. You care deeply about helping agencies succeed and improving outcomes for the communities they serve.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity. You can define structure where none exists and move forward without perfect information.
  • Humble and collaborative. You value feedback, partner well across teams, and recognize that the best solutions are built together.

Our team is remote friendly within approved states, with opportunities to collaborate in person at our offices in New York, Boston, and Manchester UK. This role may involve occasional travel to customer sites to better understand their operational needs and data environments.
