Autonomous Vehicle Operator (MiCa)
Circuit (formerly Freeride)
Who Are We?
Circuit’s goal is to reduce congestion and its harmful effects on our environment. We do this by moving people in electric shuttles that make mobility easier, smarter, and fun. Now, we’re taking the next step into the future with MiCa, our Level 4 autonomous shuttle. We are looking for tech-forward pioneers to help us launch and scale this cutting-edge technology.
What Do We Value?
At Circuit, we are a team of hard-working individuals passionate about changing the world one ride at a time. For this role, we value technical precision, situational awareness, and a "safety-first" mindset. We need people who don’t just love people, but also love the hardware and software that makes the future move.
What is the Job all About?
As an Autonomous Vehicle Operator (AVO), you aren’t just behind the wheel, you are the pilot of a sophisticated computer system. While the shuttle drives itself, you are the "Human-in-the-Loop" ensuring everything runs perfectly. You’ll monitor advanced software, manage system alerts, and chat with riders to make the future feel friendly and safe.
- Own the Tech: Perform full vehicle startups, software initializations, and system checks. Think of it as "pre-flight" for a shuttle.
- Monitor & Intervene: Stay sharp by watching real-time data feeds and pedestrian activity. You’ll use a handheld controller interface to navigate tricky spots.
- The Bridge: Explain autonomous technology to curious riders, making them feel safe and excited about the future of transport.
- Safety Specialist: You will undergo rigorous training through Guident, learning to manage remote monitoring systems and ultra-low latency software.
- Maintain the Fleet: Ensure the vehicle is charged, the sensors are clean, and the cabin is pristine for every passenger.
Selection for this role is competitive and performance-based. This position is filled through a tryout-based selection process:
- Step 1: Applicants who pass the initial screening are invited to a paid evaluation.
- Step 2: This "tryout" includes a driving simulation, controller-based intervention scenarios, and public interaction exercises.
- Step 3: Top performers move to active scheduling. Qualified peers may join our Certified Reserve Pool for future expansion or backfill.
- 3+ years of safe driving experience with a valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
- Be very comfortable with computer interfaces, tablets, and following complex technical checklists.
- Experience with simulators, drones, or gaming is a major plus, precision control with handheld interfaces is a core part of the job.
- The ability to process data on a screen while simultaneously watching the road.
- You can troubleshoot a software alert while calmly answering a passenger’s question.
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and meet vehicle height/weight safety requirements.
- Willingness to complete paid training, evaluation, and certification
- Availability to support operations between 10:00 AM and 10:00 PM
- Ability to work four (4)-hour shifts within the operating window
Strongly Preferred
- Background with remote-controlled systems or simulators requiring rapid response.
- Experience in hospitality, tourism, events, or customer service
- Genuine Interest in autonomous vehicles, electric vehicles, or emerging technology
What We Offer
- Hourly rate of $19.00 plus tips.
- Paid Technical Training
- Gain hands-on experience in the AV industry, one of the most in-demand sectors in tech today.
- A fun, flexible environment where you are literally the face of the future.
Important Note
Safety Operators primarily monitor and oversee autonomous operation. Manual control using a handheld controller is rare and used only when necessary. This role requires comfort with technology, computer-based systems, and maintaining a clean, professional vehicle environment. Candidates who take pride in operational readiness and public-facing presentation tend to excel.
