Position Summary

The Wellsite Leader (Training Role) is a field-based development position designed to prepare high-potential individuals—particularly military veterans with high leadership capacity—for future Wells Superintendent roles. This position works directly at the wellsite and the office, partnering closely with experienced Superintendents to learn, support, and progressively lead operations while developing strong technical, safety, and leadership capabilities.

The role is hands-on and immersive, providing structured exposure to planning, execution, contractor management, and wellsite leadership in a dynamic onshore drilling environment.

Key Responsibilities

Wellsite Operations & Execution

  • Support day-to-day drilling operations at the wellsite under the guidance of a Drilling Superintendent

  • Assist with execution of drilling programs, ensuring operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards

  • Monitor drilling activities, equipment performance, and contractor execution

  • Participate in daily operations meetings, pre-job safety meetings, and shift handovers

Safety, Compliance & Risk Management

  • Actively promote a strong safety culture and lead by example at the wellsite

  • Ensure compliance with company HSE policies, regulatory requirements, and operating procedures

  • Identify hazards, participate in risk assessments, and support incident reporting and investigations

  • Reinforce stop-work authority and safe work practices

Leadership & Contractor Management

  • Develop leadership presence by coordinating with drilling contractors, service providers, and company personnel

  • Support supervision of rig crews and third-party vendors to ensure alignment with operational plans

  • Practice effective communication and conflict resolution in a fast-paced field environment

Learning & Development (Training Focus)

  • Complete a structured training curriculum designed to build technical competency in operations, well control, logistics, and cost management

  • Shadow experienced Superintendents to gain exposure to decision-making, problem-solving, and operational leadership

  • Build foundational skills in planning, reporting, and performance tracking

  • Receive ongoing coaching and feedback to support progression toward an independent Superintendent role

Reporting & Documentation

  • Assist with daily drilling reports, cost tracking, and operational documentation

  • Communicate operational status, risks, and key learnings to the team

Essential Education and Experience

  • Military service experience (officer or senior enlisted strongly preferred) or equivalent leadership experience in high-reliability environments

  • Strong interest in building a career in oil and gas drilling operations

  • Willingness and ability to work in a field-based role on a rotational schedule

  • Demonstrated leadership, discipline, and accountability

  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse teams

  • Ability to work safely in physically demanding and remote environments

Preferred

  • Prior experience in oil and gas operations, construction, mining, or heavy industrial environments

  • Exposure to field operations, logistics, or maintenance activities

  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geoscience, Operations Management, or related field

How much do we pay (Base)? $140,000 - $180,000. Note that the pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
