Position Summary
The Wellsite Leader (Training Role) is a field-based development position designed to prepare high-potential individuals—particularly military veterans with high leadership capacity—for future Wells Superintendent roles. This position works directly at the wellsite and the office, partnering closely with experienced Superintendents to learn, support, and progressively lead operations while developing strong technical, safety, and leadership capabilities.
The role is hands-on and immersive, providing structured exposure to planning, execution, contractor management, and wellsite leadership in a dynamic onshore drilling environment.
Key Responsibilities
Wellsite Operations & Execution
Support day-to-day drilling operations at the wellsite under the guidance of a Drilling Superintendent
Assist with execution of drilling programs, ensuring operations are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with company standards
Monitor drilling activities, equipment performance, and contractor execution
Participate in daily operations meetings, pre-job safety meetings, and shift handovers
Safety, Compliance & Risk Management
Actively promote a strong safety culture and lead by example at the wellsite
Ensure compliance with company HSE policies, regulatory requirements, and operating procedures
Identify hazards, participate in risk assessments, and support incident reporting and investigations
Reinforce stop-work authority and safe work practices
Leadership & Contractor Management
Develop leadership presence by coordinating with drilling contractors, service providers, and company personnel
Support supervision of rig crews and third-party vendors to ensure alignment with operational plans
Practice effective communication and conflict resolution in a fast-paced field environment
Learning & Development (Training Focus)
Complete a structured training curriculum designed to build technical competency in operations, well control, logistics, and cost management
Shadow experienced Superintendents to gain exposure to decision-making, problem-solving, and operational leadership
Build foundational skills in planning, reporting, and performance tracking
Receive ongoing coaching and feedback to support progression toward an independent Superintendent role
Reporting & Documentation
Assist with daily drilling reports, cost tracking, and operational documentation
Communicate operational status, risks, and key learnings to the team
Essential Education and Experience
Military service experience (officer or senior enlisted strongly preferred) or equivalent leadership experience in high-reliability environments
Strong interest in building a career in oil and gas drilling operations
Willingness and ability to work in a field-based role on a rotational schedule
Demonstrated leadership, discipline, and accountability
Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively with diverse teams
Ability to work safely in physically demanding and remote environments
Preferred
Prior experience in oil and gas operations, construction, mining, or heavy industrial environments
Exposure to field operations, logistics, or maintenance activities
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Geoscience, Operations Management, or related field
How much do we pay (Base)? $140,000 - $180,000. Note that the pay range listed for this position is a good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible base compensation at the time of posting.
