ETP Delivery Lead – Job Description
Let me tell you about the role
The bp Standards team manage and maintain bp’s suite of internal engineering documents (known as ETP’s). The Delivery Lead plays a key role in the Standards team, coordinating the prioritization, planning and development of these engineering ‘requirements sets’ that contain bp’s many years of engineering and global operating experience.
The Delivery Lead ensures the right business stakeholders are engaged at the best time during an update cycle. They also ensure that requirements are written clearly, properly justified, and suitable across global projects, operations and suppliers.
The Delivery Lead is a leadership-through-influence role and involves guiding engineering stakeholders such as subject matter experts, principal engineers, technical teams and editors to align document content, capture and prioritize lessons and resolve differences constructively.
What you will deliver
· Run content workshops to simplify and structure requirements (including challenge, framing, and simplification sessions).
· Ensure requirements are clear and verifiable, with strong justification.
· Help technical content owners write consistently, following bp’s governance and rules.
· Coordinate planning across engineering teams to ensure realistic delivery timelines.
· Monitor progress and performance using bp’s preferred digital tools
· Act as the Standards quality gate to ensure clarity, usability, and alignment across users.
· Identify, flag, and support the resolution of cross-discipline issues.
· Contribute to continuous improvement of requirement set delivery and development processes.
What you will need to be successful
Experience
· 10+ years’ experience in engineering, project delivery, operations, or business analysis with a focus on supporting technical decision-making. With a solid foundation in engineering.
· Proven ability to coordinate work across multiple disciplines and bring different stakeholders, especially technical experts, project engineering and operating sites.
· Direct experience working with technical standards and specifications including writing or applying requirements and associated requirement documentation.
Education & Language
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering or equivalent experience in engineering.
· Fluent written and spoken English with strong command of technical language.
Skills & Capabilities
· Ability to lead conversations and influence decisions without needing formal authority.
· Clear and confident communicator; skilled at running sessions with multiple stakeholders.
· Good practical knowledge of engineering principles and how technical decisions are made.
· Comfortable working with senior technical leaders and challenging ideas in a constructive way.
· Experienced in coordinating work across different teams and engineering disciplines.
· Can take complex information and help teams turn it into clear, practical decisions.
Tools & Working Knowledge
· Strong proficiency requirements language and structuring (structured authoring) and Microsoft O365. Experience in Power BI (tracking, analysis) an advantage.
· Experience in digital requirements management tools, e.g. Jama Connect, an advantage. Comfortable working with digital requirement writing tools, e.g. QVScribe or similar.
· Familiarity with change control, versioning, or governance workflows is helpful.
Mindset
· Curious, collaborative, and focused on user value and clarity.
· Seeks simplicity over volume; reduces unnecessary complexity.
· Sees the role as enabling others and moving decisions forward—not owning content.
Preferred Experience (Nice to Have)
· Experience interfacing with suppliers/Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) Contractors/project teams in engineering delivery.
· Postgraduate qualification in technical writing, systems engineering, or communication.
You will work with:
Global technical experts; including subject matter experts, principal engineers, chief engineers, technical editors, project engineers, and other stakeholders, across multiple engineering disciplines to help shape technical content. Additionally, you will work alongside Engineering leadership to ensure effective prioritization and progress monitoring. Engagement with bp industry standards organization committee members will also be required.
